Methods

Methodological Approach

Mixed-methods phased design: quantitative CAPI/CAWI for scale and comparability, qualitative IDIs for depth, and user-led immersions as lab-in-field experiments to observe actual digital finance behaviour.

Challenge Solved

Avoiding the bias traps inherent in fintech user research, adapting instruments across 15 linguistically and culturally distinct markets, and maintaining cross-country comparability across a three-year study.

Outcome

Locally meaningful and regionally comparable findings that gave stakeholders a clear basis for designing inclusive digital finance products and understanding how payment ecosystems evolve across African contexts.
